The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) praises the resilience of the student movement to prevent genocide in Gaza. We stand in solidarity with those students, and we call for the same from all.
IUMS strongly condemns the repression used by the police forces in the United States, Germany and elsewhere against professors and students on university campuses. It looks like we are dealing with dictatorial western states now!
IUMS affirms its condemnation of the ongoing genocide in Palestine, calls for an end to the bloody war in Gaza, and the protection and defence of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank against the Israeli Occupation Forces.
We praise the active student uprisings in particular and youth movements in general all around the world. A special praise is due to university students in the United States and Europe -Muslims, Christians and a large number of anti-Zionist Jews as well-, who all called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and an end to the military aid from Western countries to Israel. They also called for their universities to disclose, boycott and divest from arms supply companies and other companies that profit from the war, as well as to end police repression and reverse disciplinary sanctions against students who mobilize for Palestine on university campuses.
We are wondering:
- How can international humanitarian institutions and concerned governments effectively demand that the countries waging the war abide by the laws of war and respect international humanitarian law, given the continued impunity for criminals?
- How can we understand the silence of the entire world when the Zionists block thousands of trucks of humanitarian aid through the Rafah crossing?
- Why did the international community fail to confront the Zionist Occupation and the other states involved in Gaza, and allow the humanitarian situation to deteriorate to such an extent and crimes against humanity to recur?
Dear leaders and officials:
Common sense and human values -unfortunately- no longer mean anything. Humanity has been desecrated and destroyed by the Zionists and their criminal governments, who have the blood of innocent women and children of Gaza on their hands in the most heinous way.
Therefore, to save face, there is still a slim opportunity for all of us to work together to lift the siege immediately, fight injustice and tyranny, and save lives of millions of people, most of them women and children. If we do that right now, we might be able to start erasing this shame that will haunt humanity for generations.
God Almighty said: (Do not think that Allah is unaware of that which the wrongdoers do, but He gives them respite up to a Day (of Judgement) when the eyes will stare in horror. (They will be) hastening forward with necks outstretched, their heads raised up (towards the sky), their gaze returning not towards them and their hearts empty) - Quran: Ibrahim, 42.
