Qatar: Endowments Ministry
Honors Winners of Sheikh Ali Al Thani Award for Local and International Islamic
Research
The Research and Islamic Studies Department
at Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced today, Tuesday,
10 Rabi’ Al-Awwal 1447 AH, corresponding to 2 September 2025, the names of the
researchers who won the “Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani Endowment Award” at
both local and international levels, during a press conference organized by the
Ministry.
The international award, in its fifteenth
cycle with the theme “Social Solidarity and Its Role in Achieving Community
Security,” was won by Moroccan researcher Ismail bin Abdullah Al-Haj.
Meanwhile, the local award, in its inaugural cycle on the theme “Family
Cohesion and Its Role in Childcare,” was shared between Dr. Omar Othman
Al-Khatib, Dr. Khalifa Ahmed Bu Hashim Al-Sayed, and Ms. Layla Fadl Hamad Sada.
The decision to share the local award was
made after the judging committee confirmed that the two research papers
complemented each other. Dr. Omar Othman’s research stood out for its practical
and religious dimensions, while Dr. Khalifa and Ms. Layla focused on field
studies and proposed practical solutions.
Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al
Thani, Director of the Research Department, explained that the competition for
the award was intense, involving 57 researchers from 15 countries, including
Qatar, Oman, Yemen, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria,
Morocco, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, and Indonesia.
He noted that although the award recognizes
only the winners, the participating research papers make a significant
contribution to the Arab-Islamic library, with some potentially being published
in the “Ummah Book” series, subject to the authors’ approval.
The Sheikh Ali Award is the largest and
first adjudicated endowment award in the fields of culture, Islamic advocacy,
and thought in Qatar. It aims to encourage scientific research and develop a
generation of scholars in Islamic sciences. The award is named after Sheikh Ali
bin Abdullah Al Thani, may God have mercy on him, in recognition of his
contributions to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge.
The award carries a value of QAR 200,000 for
both local and international levels, funded by Sheikh Ali’s endowment, may he
rest in peace.
Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al Thani also announced the
themes for the upcoming cycles: the 18th international award will focus on
“Artificial Intelligence and Technology Ethics in Islamic Thought,” while the
fourth local award will address “Financial Education for Children According to
the Islamic Approach and Its Impact on Family Economics.”
Over nearly three decades, the award has
proven its contribution to enriching Islamic knowledge in various fields,
including endowment and community development, environment, family, education,
heritage, consultation, dialogue, human rights, sustainable development,
citizenship, zakat, and “the jurisprudence of change and building a balanced
