IUMS offers condolences on the passing of the renowned scholar Sheikh Muhammad Al-Hasani Al-Nadawi at the age of 93.

Almighty Allah said: (O soul at peace, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing, and enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise) Surah Al-Fajr 27-30.

With heartfelt condolences, we express our sympathies to the Muslim Ummah and the world upon the demise of Sheikh Mohammed al-Hasan al-Dedew al-Nadwi, a distinguished scholar and author, on the 15th of April, 2023. Sheikh al-Nadwi was born on the 1st of October, 1929 in the town of Ray Bareilly, located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. He was brought up in a scholarly family and his education and upbringing were overseen by his uncle, Sheikh Abu al-Hasan Ali al-Nadwi.

Sheikh al-Nadwi pursued his studies at Nadwatul Ulama, where he dedicated almost 40 years of his life teaching after being appointed as a teacher in 1367 AH. He also held memberships in various academic and scholarly organizations worldwide, including the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies in Britain, the World Islamic Literature League, and the Indian Muslim Personal Law Board. He served as the Secretary-General of Nadwatul Ulama and the President of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama. Additionally, he established the International Islamic Literature Organization, where he served as Vice President and was also the President of its Indian branch. He was awarded the President of India's Award in 1981 for his significant contribution to the Arabic language.

The deceased had a large collection of works in both Arabic and Urdu, including "History of the Arabian Peninsula," "Days in America," "History of Arabic Literature," "Anthologies of Arabic Literature," "Contemporary Islamic Culture," "The Islamic Ummah and its Achievements," "Education and Society," "Arabic Literature Between Presentation and Critique," "Islamic Literature and its Connection to Life," and "The Reality of Islamic Culture."

The Islamic Ummah has lost one of its dedicated scholars. We ask Allah, the Almighty and Most Merciful, to forgive and have mercy on him, to reward him with the best of rewards, to honor his abode, and to enter him into Paradise, and to gather him with the Prophets, the truthful, and the righteous, and what an excellent company they are. We also ask Allah to grant his family and loved ones patience and solace. Indeed, Allah is the best of guardians and the best of responders.

To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.

 Dr. Salem Saqaf Al-Jifri,  President.
