Qatar Launches
\n\u201cQur\u2019an Teacher\u201d Initiative in Schools to Strengthen Recitation and Religious

Professor Dr. Sultan Ibrahim
\nAl-Hashemi, Chairman of the Committee for Developing and Enhancing the Teaching
\nof the Holy Qur\u2019an and the Arabic Language at the Ministry of Education and
\nHigher Education, and Assistant Secretary-General of the International Union of
\nMuslim Scholars, announced the launch of the \u201cQur\u2019an Teacher\u201d initiative in
\nseven schools, starting last Sunday, April 26, 2026, stressing that it is the
\nfirst of its kind across the Arab and Islamic worlds and represents a
\nqualitative step in advancing Qur\u2019anic education within the school environment<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In remarks to Qatar TV,
\nAl-Hashemi explained that the initiative is the outcome of specialized studies
\nconducted by the committee, noting that the State of Qatar is at the forefront
\nof adopting this innovative educational model, in cooperation with the Ministry
\nof Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, which contributed to nominating a select group of
\nqualified imams to take part in its implementation<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

A
\nQualitative Leap in Qur\u2019anic Education<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

In this context, Al-Hashemi
\nstated that the selection of imams was based on precise criteria, given their
\nhigh competence, continuous Qur\u2019anic transmission (sanad), and mastery of
\nrecitation and Tajweed rules. He added that they underwent two training courses
\nto ensure full readiness before the actual launch of the initiative<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He pointed out that the first
\nphase will include seven schools as a pilot model, considering the scale of the
\nproject and current circumstances. It will be implemented in a number of
\ngovernment boys\u2019 schools, in addition to one private school, with implementation
\nin other private schools to follow after the examination period<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Hashemi affirmed that
\ninvolving imams is intended to support, not replace, Islamic education
\nteachers. The \u201cQur\u2019an Teacher\u201d will focus on assisting students facing
\ndifficulties in recitation and memorization through specialized training
\nprograms delivered during skills classes, before morning assembly, and during
\nschool activities<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He added that the role also
\nextends to training teaching staff, contributing to improving the quality of
\nQur\u2019anic instruction within schools<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He further noted that
\nparticipating imams will be present in schools from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.,
\nwhere they will be responsible for memorization, reflection, and teaching
\nrecitation skills, thereby strengthening students\u2019 connection to the Holy
\nQur\u2019an in both understanding and practice<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Hashemi concluded by
\nemphasizing that the initiative represents a strategic national project aimed
\nat consolidating Islamic values and strengthening linguistic and religious
\nidentity among students, expressing hope that the experience will be expanded
\nin the future after evaluating the results of the pilot phase<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
