Saudi Arabia and Qatar Announce Friday as the First Day of Eid

Saudi
\nArabia and Qatar announced on Wednesday evening that Friday, March 20, will
\nmark the first day of Eid al-Fitr<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In Saudi
\nArabia, the Saudi Royal Court, as reported by the official news agency, stated
\nthat the Supreme Court decided Thursday would complete the month of Ramadan
\nafter the crescent of Shawwal could not be sighted, making Friday the start of
\nEid al-Fitr<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In
\nQatar, the Crescent Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic
\nAffairs clarified in an official statement carried by the news agency that
\nFriday will be observed as the first day of Eid al-Fitr following the confirmed
\ninability to sight the Shawwal crescent<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It is
\nworth noting that Saudi Arabia and 11 other Arab countries declared Wednesday,
\nFebruary 18, as the beginning of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH, with these
\ncountries observing the crescent of Shawwal to determine the date of Eid. This
\nmeans these countries completed a full 30 days of Ramadan<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile,
\nin Egypt and nine other Arab countries, Ramadan began on Thursday, February 19,
\nand the Shawwal crescent is expected to be observed on Thursday, with
\nastronomical predictions also indicating that Friday will likely be the first
\nday of Eid al-Fitr<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
