With
\ndeep sorrow and grief, and with hearts content with Allah\u2019s decree, the
\nInternational Union of Muslim Scholars extends its condolences to the family of
\nthe late Professor Dr. Abdullah Gamal Al-Din, and to the entire Muslim Ummah,
\non the passing of one of the prominent figures of Islamic history and
\ncivilization, who devoted his life to the service of knowledge and the
\ndissemination of learning, and whose academic and research efforts enriched the
\nIslamic library.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The late
\nscholar was a model of refined manners and high moral character, known for his
\nforgiveness and forbearance. Throughout his distinguished academic career, he
\nmade significant contributions to the enrichment of Islamic and historical
\nthought through notable scholarly and humanitarian achievements.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Academic Qualifications:<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The late
\nProfessor \u2013 may Allah have mercy on him \u2013 obtained a Bachelor\u2019s degree in
\nArabic Language and Islamic Sciences from the Faculty of Dar Al-Uloom, Cairo
\nUniversity, in 1963; a Master\u2019s degree in Islamic Sciences (Islamic History and
\nCivilization) in 1965; and another Master\u2019s degree in Islamic History from the
\nFaculty of Philosophy and Arts, University of Granada, Spain, in 1964. He also
\nearned his PhD in Islamic Studies (Islamic History and Civilization) from the
\nFaculty of Philosophy and Arts, Central University of Madrid \u2013 Spain, in 1978.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Career Progression:<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

He began
\nhis academic career as a researcher at the American University in Cairo in
\n1963, then served as a teaching assistant in the Department of Islamic History
\nand Civilization, Faculty of Dar Al-Uloom, in 1964; an assistant lecturer in
\n1972; a lecturer in 1978; an associate professor in 1984; then a full professor
\nand Head of the Department of Islamic History and Civilization at the Faculty
\nof Dar Al-Uloom, Cairo University, from 1994 to 2002. He later served as an
\nemeritus professor from 2007 onwards, continuing to contribute to research,
\nauthorship, and participation in conferences.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Courses Taught:<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Throughout
\nhis academic career, the late professor \u2013 may Allah have mercy on him \u2013 taught
\nnumerous specialized courses in Islamic history and civilization, including:
\nthe Prophetic biography (Seerah), the History of the Rightly Guided Caliphs,
\nthe History and Civilization of Muslims in the Indian Subcontinent, the History
\nand Civilization of Al-Andalus, Islamic political, economic, and social
\nsystems, the Islamic Renaissance movement, contemporary Islamic movements,
\ntexts from religious heritage, Umayyad history, Islamic Egypt, the Eastern
\nIslamic world in the modern era, the development of historical writing, and the
\nscientific methodology for editing heritage texts. He also taught personal
\nstatus law at the Faculty of Sharia, International Islamic University,
\nIslamabad \u2013 Pakistan.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Scholarly and Administrative Activities:<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

He
\nparticipated in numerous scientific conferences and seminars both within and
\nbeyond the Muslim world, contributed to specialized academic committees,
\nsupervised and examined many graduate theses, and authored notable books and
\nresearch in his field.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The late
\nscholar \u2013 may Allah have mercy on him \u2013 was a model of the reformist scholar
\nand wise preacher, combining knowledge with action, dedicating his life to
\nserving his religion and his Ummah.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nInternational Union of Muslim Scholars proudly remembers his scholarly and
\nda\u2018wah legacy, asking Allah Almighty to envelop him in His vast mercy, grant
\nhim the highest ranks in Paradise, reward him abundantly, place his works in
\nthe scale of his good deeds, and grant patience and solace to his family,
\nstudents, and all who loved him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Indeed,
\nto Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
