The International Union of Muslim Scholars
\nextends its deepest condolences on the passing of Professor Dato’ Muhammad Nur
\nManuty, a member of the Union, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Union’s
\nMalaysia Branch, and President of the Institute of Islamic Understanding
\nMalaysia (IKIM). He was one of the most prominent figures in Islamic thought,
\npreaching, and service in Southeast Asia<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He passed away on the morning of Thursday,
\nJune 26, 2025, at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia, at
\nthe age of 76, after a life filled with scholarly, preaching, and political
\ncontributions<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The deceased was a model of a committed
\nscholar, sincere preacher, and balanced thinker. He dedicated his life to
\nserving Islam and defending its causes, contributed to spreading awareness and
\nmoderate Islamic thought, and left a lasting legacy in the fields of education,
\npreaching, and community service<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\nProfessor Muhammad Nur Manuty<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>(<\/span><\/b>December 12, 1949 \u2013 June 26, 2025<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>)<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

A Malaysian thinker, academic, and
\npolitician, Professor Manuty was among the most prominent contemporary Islamic
\nfigures in Malaysia. He combined academic work with intellectual and political
\nactivism, and was known for his influential presence in Islamic causes locally
\nand internationally<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Early Life and Background<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Born on December 12, 1949, Professor Manuty
\ncame from a Malay background and was raised on Islamic values that shaped his
\nintellectual and religious awareness from an early age<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Previously affiliated with the United Malays
\nNational Organisation (UMNO), which he left after the dismissal of Anwar
\nIbrahim in 1997, standing by him as a former ABIM president<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He contested in the 11th (1999) and 13th
\n(2013) general elections, maintaining a strong political presence despite not
