Allah, the Almighty, said in Surah Al-Fajr (27-30): "O soul at peace, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing, and enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise."<\/p>\n
With hearts filled with faith in the decree of Allah, we received the news of the passing of the esteemed Egyptian academic, physician, historian, and writer, Dr. Mohamed El-Gawady – may Allah have mercy on him – at the age of 65 after a battle with illness.<\/p>\n
Mohamed El-Gawady was born in 1958 in the city of Fareskur, Damietta Governorate, in the Arab Republic of Egypt. This ancient city, known for its historical significance, including the renowned Al-Hadeedi Mosque, holds a special place in the country’s heritage.<\/p>\n
In 1975, Dr. El-Gawady graduated from the distinguished Ain Shams Secondary School for the Gifted in Cairo, Egypt. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in Cardiology in 1985, with a thesis titled "Thrombolytic Agents as Treatment for Acute Myocardial Infarction." In 1990, he obtained his Doctorate degree in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Diseases, presenting a thesis on "Assessment of Cardiac Dimensions and Functions in the Elderly."<\/p>\n
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. El-Gawady served as a visiting fellow in the Department of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Diseases at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, United States since 1991. He also held the position of professor in the Department of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University. He served as the editor-in-chief of the Egyptian Medical Journal and played an active role in various organizations, including the National Council for Human Rights.<\/p>\n
Dr. El-Gawady’s contributions extended beyond the field of medicine. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Holdi Pharma, a pharmaceutical holding company, and Faksera, a serum and vaccine company. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ain Shams Secondary School. He was a member of the Arabic Language Academy from 2003 to 2019, the Egyptian Scientific Society from 2008, and the Egyptian Writers Union since 1979. He also held advisory positions in several medical academies, organizations, and companies.<\/p>\n
As an accomplished author, Dr. El-Gawady published numerous books and articles covering a wide range of subjects, including the history of scholars and their biographies, the history of science, Islamic thought, the liberal era, military and security history, and Arab history and intercultural dialogue. His writings also encompassed diverse topics such as the Arab Spring and the counter-revolution, literature, language, culture, journalism, educational and developmental thought, and emotional and travel experiences.<\/p>\n
Dr. Mohamed El-Gawady’s passing is an immense loss for the Islamic nation. We ask Allah, the Most High, to forgive him, shower him with His mercy, grant him an honorable place in Paradise, and gather him with the prophets, the righteous, and the noble companions. May Allah bestow patience and solace upon his family and loved ones during this challenging time. Verily, to Allah we belong, and to Him, we shall return.<\/p>\n
