Statement from the Ijtihad and Fatwa Committee of the
\nInternational Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS)<\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n

Commending principled fatwa positions supporting the
\nruling regarding the aggression on Gaza and warning against distortions found
\nin some translations<\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/p>\n

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially
\nMerciful.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be
\nupon the Noble Messenger, his family, and all his companions. To proceed:<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The Ijtihad and Fatwa Committee of the International Union
\nof Muslim Scholars, in its meeting on 19 Shawwal 1446 AH (corresponding to
\nApril 17, 2025), reviewed the honorable positions issued by fatwa committees
\nand bodies across various countries of the Muslim world that released
\nstatements and stances supporting the fatwa concerning the aggression on Gaza,
\nissued on 28 Ramadan 1446 AH (corresponding to March 28, 2025).<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The Committee also noted the positive reactions, widespread
\nresonance, and broad sympathy for that fatwa. While appreciating and praising
\nthis, the Committee also offers clarification regarding distortions and
\ninaccuracies that appeared in some foreign-language translations of its fatwa,
\naimed at maligning the Committee and the Union.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Accordingly, the Committee affirms the following:<\/o:p><\/p>\n

1.     
\n<\/span><\/span>What appeared in those
\ntranslations portraying the fatwa as targeting non-Muslim populations in
\nEurope, the West, and the world is pure fabrication, falsehood, and a
\ndistortion of the fatwa; the Committee and the Union categorically repudiate
\nit.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

2.     
\n<\/span><\/span>The Committee affirms the
\ninviolability of the blood of non-Muslim civilians around the world and the
\nprohibition of harming or intimidating them. Muslims in Europe, the West in
\ngeneral, and in all non-Muslim lands are duty-bound to safeguard the values of
\njustice and freedom, to resist oppression, and to support the oppressed\u2014side by
\nside with the free people among their fellow citizens and fellow human beings
\nof other faiths who have supported the Palestinian cause and believed in its
\njustice from day one.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

3.     
\n<\/span><\/span>The Committee confirms that
\nits fatwas are confined to the right of defending the oppressed and downtrodden
\nin Palestine\u2014especially in Gaza\u2014against aggression and occupation, in
\naccordance with the established legal conditions, ethics, and regulations of
\njihad and resistance.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/p>\n

It is well known that resisting an occupier is a legitimate
\nright affirmed by all revealed laws, religions, and international covenants, as
\nwell as by United Nations resolutions. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The Committee further clarifies that jihad in Islam has a
\nbroad, comprehensive meaning that includes legal, political, financial,
\nintellectual, and media forms of striving\u2014where everyone cooperates according
\nto his or her ability, circumstances, time, and place.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The Union looks to all to act with scholarly, ethical, and
\nSharia-based responsibility in engaging with its statements and fatwas. It
\nrefrains from trading responses with those who distort its positions or lie in
\nwait for peoples and nations seeking to resist occupation and injustice. The
\nUnion exercises its religious, legal, and academic right to proclaim the truth
\nand to strongly condemn the grave threats facing the region and the world as a
\nresult of the occupier\u2019s racist criminal aggression and the dangerous fueling
\nof general tensions.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

It is the responsibility of all humanity to preserve what
\nthe Creator wills for the order of His creation, mutual recognition among
\npeoples, and the establishment of His oneness. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The Union reiterates the Palestinian people\u2019s right to
\nresist occupation and stands with their legitimate resistance, as well as with
\nthe struggles of all peoples to defend the freedoms and rights guaranteed by
\nthe Sharia, by religions, and by international covenants.<\/o:p><\/p>\n
