eternal voice of Al-Aqsa… Sheikh Naji Al-Qazzaz bids farewell to Al-Quds
after half a century of adhan and devotion

 

Residents of Al-Quds mourned, on
Sunday, the body of the muezzin and reciter of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Naji
Fayez Al-Qazzaz, at the age of 66, following his death on Saturday. The funeral
took place in a solemn procession that began from the courtyards of the blessed
Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Al-Quds, where funeral prayers were performed before
his burial in one of the city’s cemeteries
.

A farewell from the courtyards of
Al-Aqsa

The late Sheikh was considered
one of the most prominent muezzins of Al-Aqsa Mosque. He began officially
calling the adhan in 1978 and continued for decades to perform the call to
prayer for the five daily prayers. He also participated in Quranic recitations
inside the mosque, which made his voice a constant presence deeply connected to
worshippers and visitors of Al-Aqsa over many years
.

A Jerusalemite family legacy

Sheikh Naji Al-Qazzaz belonged to
a well-known Jerusalemite family that inherited the duty of calling the adhan
in Al-Aqsa Mosque across successive generations for centuries, forming a deeply
rooted religious legacy within Al-Aqsa. His son, Firas Al-Qazzaz, continues
this family tradition in serving the mosque
.

Egypt’s Minister of Endowments,
Osama Al-Azhari, also mourned Sheikh Al-Qazzaz in a statement published by the
ministry on the platform “X,” expressing deep sorrow over his death and noting
that the deceased dedicated his life to serving Al-Aqsa Mosque, and that his
voice remained linked to the memory of the people of Al-Quds and its visitors
for decades
.

An unforgettable voice

The statement added that the late
Sheikh represented a model of sincerity and dedication, and was an extension of
a long family heritage in raising the adhan within the Al-Aqsa sanctuary. His
voice formed a constant spiritual presence and a source of reassurance
throughout the mosque
.

In the same context, the
Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement mourned Sheikh Al-Qazzaz, affirming that he
passed away after a long journey of dedication, steadfastness, and devotion in
Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque
.

The administration of Al-Aqsa
Mosque had announced the news of Sheikh Al-Qazzaz’s death on Saturday evening
via loudspeakers in the mosque’s courtyards, informing worshippers who bid him
farewell with prayers and supplications, in a moment of farewell to one of the
voices most closely tied to the place, time, and collective memory of Al-Quds
.
