Al-Murattal Al-Dhaki: A Project from King Saud University
Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Global Understanding of the Holy
Quran

King
Saud University showcased its project “Al-Murattal Al-Dhaki” during the
Artificial Intelligence for Serving the Holy Quran Conference, with the
participation of a select group of researchers and specialists in modern
technologies.

The
project aims to employ artificial intelligence in developing interactive tools
that help achieve a more accurate and clearer understanding of the meanings of
the Holy Quran, as part of a research-oriented approach seeking to enhance the
digital presence of Quranic content and expand its global dissemination.

Interactive
Platform

The
“Al-Murattal Al-Dhaki” platform offers a technical model for generating
realistic audio recitations of translations of the meanings of the Holy Quran
in multiple languages, enabling non-Arabic speakers to understand the text in a
simplified and interactive manner.

The
platform also relies on advanced tools for tagging Quranic texts, helping
clarify the precise meanings of verses, while enhancing the user experience
through the simulation of human-like recitations close to real delivery.

Audio
Technologies

The
project is based on a contextual tagging system that clarifies pause and
continuation points as well as semantic indications at the level of words and
sentences with high precision, alongside an advanced voice model capable of
replicating realistic recitations while supporting accurate Arabic phoneme
pronunciation.

It also
provides a control system that allows adjustment of tone, speed, and pauses in
accordance with the interpretive meanings of the translated texts.

The
project reflects integration between academic expertise at the College of
Computer and Information Sciences and technical partnerships within the
Kingdom, contributing to the development of innovative digital solutions that
support research-driven innovation.

The
project team also plans to expand its scope to include additional languages and
new reciter voices, serving more than 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, while
reinforcing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s leadership in leveraging technology
to serve the Holy Quran.
