Urgent Call for Humanitarian Aid and Ceasefire in Sudan

Statement by the Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars on the Need to Resolve the Sudanese Crisis and Support Those Affected

Doha, May 18, 2024

In light of the severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan resulting from escalating violence in numerous cities, leading to a critical deterioration in the humanitarian situation, particularly in Al-Fashir city, where residents suffer from acute shortages of food, clean water, and healthcare, and the increasing number of children suffering from severe malnutrition, Dr. Ali Al-Sallabi, Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, stated the following:

The International Union of Muslim Scholars expresses deep concern and sorrow over the catastrophic deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Sudan, especially in Al-Fashir. Reports from Médecins Sans Frontières and other humanitarian organizations indicate severe suffering among the population, especially children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers, who are experiencing acute malnutrition and a lack of basic healthcare and clean water.

We call on all parties to immediately cease hostilities and open safe corridors for humanitarian aid teams. Our primary and utmost goal must be to save lives and provide the necessary support to those affected, regardless of their political or ethnic affiliations.

We urge the international community and humanitarian organizations to intensify their efforts to provide urgent aid to Sudanese affected by the conflict. We believe that the permanent solution to the crisis lies in peaceful dialogue and understanding among all concerned parties, to reach an agreement that ensures stability and security for the Sudanese people.

We emphasize the importance of cooperation and solidarity in facing this ordeal. Allah Almighty says: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty." (Surah Al-Ma'idah, Verse 2).

We, at the International Union of Muslim Scholars, stand with the Sudanese people in their plight, strongly condemn the deteriorating situation in Sudan, and are working diligently to support humanitarian and relief efforts. We hope this crisis serves as a catalyst for all of us to cooperate and unite for a better future for our beloved Sudan.

We pray to Allah, the Almighty, to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and grant them peace and tranquility.

Secretary-General: Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Sallabi
