The Global Campaign to Support the Syrian people, Onsor, has launched preparations for an International Day in Support of the Syrian People in cooperation with the International Union for Muslim Scholars in addition to a number of professional syndicates, and civil society organizations in the Arab and Western world.
The agenda of the International Day in Support of the Syrian People, scheduled for Friday the 14th of December/3rd of Safar, includes a unification of Friday prayer speeches in mosques and unifying the public discourse on the specified day through massive public marches in cities and capitals for the world’s nations to express their anger, indignation, and solidarity with the Syrian people against the systematic killing, slaughter, and destruction afflicted on them as the world watches all eyes and ears.
The General Coordinator of Onsor campaign, Dr. Bassam Doueihi, said the main aim behind such day was to show the public solidarity with the just, human Syrian cause. He added that "one of the targets behind calling for the International Day in Support of Syrian People is to pressure Arab and Western governments to make a serious stand by the Syrian people, and at the same time pressure countries that continue to provide the Syrian regime with weapons and money to kill the people including the Russian and Iranian governments.” Bassam Doueihi addressed people all over the world calling them to stage peaceful demonstrations and sit-ins on that day outside the embassies of the Syrian, Iranian and Russian regime and described this as the least that can be done to show support for the freedom of the Syrian people and their right to be liberated from the grip of the Syrian regime.
The Global Campaign to Support the Syrian People, Onsor, was launched in early April 2012 commissioned by the Syrian National Council, the IUMS and in coordination with Al-Azhar Institute as well as a number of professional syndicates and civil society organizations in the targeted countries. The campaign’s mission is to spread awareness of the Syrian cause among nations and goad public and political efforts to support the Syrian people and their just causes.
