On 2nd anniversary of Syrian revolution, IUMS urges campaign for "obligatory” support
All praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon God’s messenger, his family, companions and followers;
The tragic, painful and bloody incidents undergoing in the Levant – of killing, destruction of homes, bombing of residential neighborhoods; murder of seniors, children and women, violation of sacred rights, arrest, torture and executions – necessitate a renewal of the pact to support this unwavering, perseverant people, and support of serious initiatives for its defense. In view of this bitter reality that has continued for two years now, the International Union of Muslim Scholars, calls for and affirms the following:
First — IUMS calls on all Muslims, Arabs, and honorable people in the world to rescue the oppressed Syrian people and to take on their responsibility regarding what this nation faces of systematic killing, displacement, demolition, violation of sacred rights, destruction of homes, use of detrimental weapons by the regime and its allies – who spread mischief, corruption and oppression in the country - to afflict the greatest possible damage and harm on the people. Hence, the IUMS passes the edict that it is obligatory to support this oppressed people with all available means based on the definitive textual evidence in the Quran, sunnah (prophet’s tradition) and ijma` (the consensus among Muslim scholars) that stipulates the obligation to support oppressed people, and the prohibition of supporting oppressors or even inclining toward them as mentioned in the verse {And incline not to those who do wrong, or the Fire will seize you; and you have no protectors other than Allah, nor shall you be helped.} {Quran 11:113].
Second — IUMS expresses sincere gratitude and prayers of blessings to donating individuals and organizations in all their variety, for all their spending for the good cause of rescuing their Syrian brothers and sisters, and urges them anew to continue their giving with even further vitality to send a speedy rescue to the Syrian people by providing water, shelter, food, clothing, medication and catering for their basic needs.
Third — IUMS backs the Global Campaign to Support the Syrian People (Onsor) whose aim is to deliver the message to the spectator world that Arab and Muslim nations as well as honorable people in the world stand by the Syrian people and that they cannot be silent about such criminal acts of killing, destruction, rape and violation of sacred blood and honor that have crossed all limits.
Fourth — IUMS encourages mosque leaders, scholars, and speakers to use the prayer Duaa Qunoot Al-Nawazel (a prayer said when disaster falls) which the Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him – used to level at unjust idolaters especially in openly-recited jahri prayers. These imams must also perform prayer over the souls of the martyrs falling everyday in dozens and hundreds and must not give in to the pseudo scholars who have lost their insight and conscience and became lackeys for the rulers and followers to the devil.
