Secretary-General Calls for Global Aid for Afghan Flood Victims

Doha, Qatar, May 21, 2024 – Dr. Ali Al-Sallabi, the Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, today expressed his deep condolences and sympathy to the residents of Baghlan province in Afghanistan, who have been severely affected by recent floods that swept through the region. Al-Sallabi described the painful scenes depicted by the media, showing the extent of the destruction and suffering, stressing the need for international efforts to help the affected.

Al-Sallabi called upon all humanitarian associations and organizations, as well as individuals, both Muslims and non-Muslims, to quickly provide support and assistance to those affected in Afghanistan. He referred to the saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "The example of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is like that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever" (Sahih Muslim), to emphasize the importance of human solidarity in such difficult times.

The Secretary-General praised the humanitarian efforts and initiatives undertaken by many countries and institutions, considering them a model of cooperation and solidarity, and an expression of global commitment towards humanity.

Al-Sallabi concluded his statement by praying for mercy for the deceased, quick recovery for the injured, and compensation for the survivors, asking Allah to bless everyone who extends a helping hand and to bring security, peace, and stability to Afghanistan and the entire world.
