Promising Islamic
Partnership Between Ethiopia and Rwanda to Strengthen Religious Work and
Institutional Development

In a move reflecting a practical
approach to advancing Islamic work and strengthening its institutional
frameworks, H.E. Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa, President of the Ethiopian Islamic
Affairs Supreme Council, received at his office in Addis Ababa the Mufti of the
Republic of Rwanda and Head of its Islamic Council, H.E. Sheikh Musa
Sindyangaya, to discuss prospects for joint cooperation in religious affairs
and development.

The meeting comes amid growing
interest among Muslims in Rwanda in benefiting from Ethiopia’s experience. The
Rwandan Mufti noted that the history of Islam in his country spans only about a
century, emphasizing the importance of drawing on Ethiopia’s expertise in the
fields of da’wah, religious education, and the development of Islamic
institutions.

Discussions focused on mechanisms
for exchanging institutional experiences between the two sides, with the aim of
advancing Islamic work in Rwanda and enhancing the role of its religious
institutions in serving society. The Ethiopian side highlighted the country’s
long-standing Islamic heritage, which provides a cumulative body of experience
that can be leveraged to build more stable and effective institutional models.

The meeting concluded with the
announcement of the signing of a cooperation agreement between the two
councils, opening the door to a practical partnership in exchanging expertise
and implementing joint programs in the coming phase. This step reflects a tangible
shift from the exchange of views to actionable and follow-up-oriented
initiatives.
