The International Union of Muslim Scholars Offers Condolences on the Passing of the Head of the Fiqh Council in Nineveh, Sheikh Ali Al-Sufi

Allah Almighty says:
"O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], and enter among My [righteous] servants and enter My Paradise." (Al-Fajr: 27-30)

With hearts full of faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, the International Union of Muslim Scholars extends its deepest condolences on the passing of the Head of the Fiqh Council in Nineveh and the Imam and preacher of the Prophet Seth Mosque (peace be upon him) in Mosul, Sheikh Ali Al-Sufi, who passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, due to a heart attack.

The late Sheikh – may Allah have mercy on him – was a distinguished scholar, a prominent religious figure in Nineveh, and a dedicated preacher who spent his life calling to Allah and promoting goodness. He was one of the sincere scholars who devoted their lives to spreading the message of Islam, defending the faith, and promoting the values of wisdom, tolerance, and moderation.

Sheikh Ali Al-Sufi – may Allah have mercy on him – was known for his noble character, broad-mindedness, constant smile, and deep humility. He was an exemplary figure in preaching through both words and deeds, leaving a significant impact in the fields of knowledge and religion. His virtuous legacy will remain present, and his intellectual heritage will continue to guide future generations.

We ask Allah, the Almighty, to shower him with His vast mercy, grant him entry into His spacious Paradise, and unite him with the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous—what excellent companions they are! May He also grant patience and solace to his family, loved ones, and followers.

"Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return."
