Global
Steadfastness Fleet Reaches Sicily in Preparation to Break the Zionist
Occupation’s Blockade on Gaza
The ships of the “Global
Steadfastness Fleet” have arrived at the port of Port of Syracuse on the
Italian island of Sicily, as part of the “Spring 2026 Mission,” aimed at
breaking the blockade imposed by the Zionist occupation on the Gaza Strip and
delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
The ships set sail on April 12
from the Spanish city of Barcelona, within a new initiative involving
representatives of civil society organizations, activists, and volunteers from
various countries around the world, with the goal of delivering humanitarian
assistance to Palestinians in Gaza.
This initiative marks the fleet’s
second attempt, following a previous mission in September 2025 which, according
to organizers, ended after the ships were attacked by the Zionist occupation in
October while sailing in international waters, and hundreds of activists were
detained before being deported.
Saif, a member of the fleet’s
board of directors, described the first phase of the journey as “successful,”
stating: “On the way, we forced one of the world’s largest cargo ships, which
was transporting materials to the Zionist occupation, to change its course.”
He added: “Our ultimate goal is
to break the blockade and reach Gaza. I do not know what the outcome of this
mission will be, but we will continue until that is achieved. We will never
stop.”
Israel has imposed a blockade on
the Gaza Strip since 2007. Palestinian data indicate that the ongoing war since
October 2023 has resulted in tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, caused
widespread destruction of infrastructure, and led to a severe humanitarian
crisis in the territory, amid strict restrictions on the entry of aid, fuel,
and medical supplies.
The Gaza Strip is experiencing an
unprecedented humanitarian and health crisis since the start of the war of
genocide, which has led to extensive destruction of infrastructure, including
hospitals and healthcare facilities.
The territory also suffers from
strict restrictions on the entry of fuel and medical supplies, along with a
severe shortage of medicines and equipment.
