Secretary-General Union of Muslim Scholars Discusses Relief Efforts and Updates
on the “Global Steadfastness Flotilla”
In the Turkish city of Istanbul,
the Secretary-General of the World Union of Muslim Scholars, Dr. Ali Muhammad
Al-Sallabi, held a consultative meeting on Friday, May 1, with members of the
Board of Trustees of the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (İHH), to discuss a
number of issues related to relief work and the coordination of humanitarian
efforts.
The meeting addressed ways to
enhance cooperation in the humanitarian field and develop joint mechanisms of
action. The Secretary-General emphasized the Union’s commitment to supporting
humanitarian initiatives and expanding their impact in areas of need,
contributing to a more effective response to worsening humanitarian conditions.
The two sides also discussed the
latest developments regarding the “Global Steadfastness Flotilla,” as part of
following up on ongoing arrangements and efforts to ensure its success, within
broader endeavors to support humanitarian work and alleviate the suffering of
those affected.
Global
Steadfastness Flotilla 2
The ships of the “Global
Steadfastness Flotilla 2” initiative set sail on April 12, 2026, from the
Spanish city of Barcelona, in a move aimed at breaking the blockade imposed on
the Gaza Strip and delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians, with the participation
of delegations from civil society organizations, activists, and volunteers from
several countries.
This initiative comes after a
previous attempt launched in September 2025, which ended — according to
organizers — after the vessels were attacked in October while sailing in
international waters, and dozens of activists were detained before deportation procedures
began.
