IUMS: "Urgent Action to Save Sudan Is a Moral and Religious Duty for the Arab and Islamic Nations" Statement:

The International Union of Muslim Scholars calls on all Arab and Islamic countries and peoples, as well as humanitarian organizations worldwide, to take immediate action to stop the ongoing war in Sudan and address the catastrophic consequences it has caused.

The Union emphasizes that Sudan is paying the price for its steadfast adherence to its Arab and Islamic identity, which makes it deserving of support and assistance from Arabs and Muslims before anyone else, whether in halting the war or in addressing its aftermath. This is based on the noble Quranic guidance: "And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly. The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy." (Surah Al-Hujurat: 9-10).

The Union points out that what is happening in Sudan is not merely a struggle for power; it is the result of external interventions aimed at destabilizing this Arab Muslim country. Were it not for these malevolent hands meddling in Sudan's fate, internal fighting would not have escalated into a destructive war consuming everything.

The Union asserts that Sudan's suffering today is no less grave than the plight of Palestine and Gaza in terms of the nature of the targeting and the parties involved in inciting strife. Tens of thousands of Sudanese have fallen victim to this war, while millions have been displaced from their homes, with some living in tents lacking the most basic necessities of life, and others seeking refuge in neighboring countries under tragic humanitarian conditions.

While the world is preoccupied with the ongoing crimes of the Zionist occupation against Gaza and Palestine for decades, the Sudanese people endure their suffering in silence, struggling to maintain their identity and dignity in the face of conditions that have become an unbearable hell, according to international reports.

Accordingly, the Union calls on both the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League to take urgent action to save the Sudanese people. The number of war casualties has exceeded 20,000, according to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, with 25 million people in need of assistance, including 14 million in urgent need of humanitarian aid.

Supporting Sudan today is a moral and religious duty for the Arab and Islamic nations; they cannot afford to stand by as bystanders or contribute to escalating the conflict. Instead, they must unite to achieve Sudan's security and stability.

Finally, we urge the Arab and Islamic peoples to raise their voices in defense of the central issues of the nation, foremost among them the cause of Palestine and Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as supporting Sudan, where the need for peace and stability has become a fundamental condition for the continuation of a dignified life.
