The Union Expresses Condolences to the Islamic Ummah and the Senegalese People on the Passing of  Dr. Charno Kah Al-Habib.

With hearts full of faith in God's decree and destiny, the International Union of Muslim Scholars extends its sincere condolences to the Islamic Ummah and the Senegalese people on the passing of the late Professor Dr. Charno Kah Al-Habib, a member of the Union's Senegal branch, who has returned to his Lord after a life rich in intellectual and humanitarian contributions.

His Education:

The late professor, may Allah have mercy on him, studied the Holy Quran in various Quranic schools across the Republic of Senegal and learned religious sciences as well as the Arabic language and its literature. In 1968, he moved to Libya to continue his studies and joined the Islamic Research Institute in Jaghbub, where he obtained his preparatory certificate in 1969. He then moved to Kuwait, where he earned his high school diploma in 1970, and subsequently enrolled in Kuwait University in the Arabic Language and Literature Department, graduating in 1977.

He pursued his graduate studies at the Sorbonne University in Paris, where he obtained a master's degree, an advanced studies diploma, and a doctorate between 1977 and 1982.

Positions and Responsibilities:

After returning to his native Senegal in November 1982, he held numerous high positions, including:

Assistant Professor of Research at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar.

Head of the Islamic Studies Department at the Basic Institute for Black Africa.

General Inspector of Arabic Education at the Ministry of Education in 1984.

Director-General of the Islamic Institute in Dakar in 2012.

The late professor, may Allah have mercy on him, was distinguished by his pure character and integrity. He was a model of generosity, good morals, and love for the welfare of others, contributing significantly to the establishment of the history of the Arabic language and Islamic culture in Senegal through his scholarly achievements.

The Islamic world, particularly the African continent, has lost a prominent scholarly figure who enriched knowledge and spread culture. We ask Allah, the Exalted, to forgive him and bestow upon him His vast mercy, to pardon him and reward him with the best reward, to honor his resting place, to admit him into Paradise, and to unite him with the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous; and what excellent companions they are. We also ask Him to inspire his family, relatives, friends, and colleagues with patience and solace.

Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.
