In a statement, IUMS denounces the European Court's decision regarding the headscarf ban (hijab) at work, and considers it a restriction on Muslim freedom and rights.

The International Union of Muslim Scholars considers (IUMS) the decision of the European Court of Justice giving companies the legal right to ban Islamic headscarves (hijab) as a violation and a restriction of the freedoms and rights of Muslim citizens. Therefore we denounce it and demand the court to both  review its decision, and to protect equality and justice for Muslim citizens.

Statement Text

IUMS believes that such unjustifiable decisions that are used only against Muslims and Islam, under the guise of freedom. Such decisions are responsible for creating terrorism and religious bigotry and preventing peaceful coexistence based on respect for all religions with its unique requirements.

The Union wonders about the fate of freedom in Europe if non-religiosity is imposed on Muslims, in that they are being required to sign on the charter of secularism by force!!

The Union affirms that it supports positive harmony and voluntary integration in light of equal rights, coexistence and building an equal and interdependent society. This will not be achieved by coercion, marginalization and restrictions on the freedoms and rights of others. Rather it will be achieved through justice, equality, responsible freedoms and the provision of equality for all without any discrimination on the basis of race or religion.

In conclusion, these repeated decisions against Islam which hurt the feelings of one billion and 700 million Muslims. They are only well-suited with the medieval era thought that pushed Europe into a religious war.

Indeed, modern Europe entered into two world wars in the twentieth century because of these racist ideas, would these countries take a lesson?!!!

The Union calls for moving above and beyond these racist conflicts, and working on the common principles of peaceful coexistence, freedoms for all, and positive integration based on respect for the uniqueness of every community, religion and color. The Almighty said: Surah Aali 'Imran

64. Say, “O People of the Scripture, come to common terms between us and you: that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate nothing with Him, and that none of us takes others as lords besides Allah.” And if they refuse, say, “be witness that we are Submitters.”

The commonalities are more than the differences, and what is in dispute is a matter of constructive dialogue, and those must not be resolved by coercion and forcing people to sign.

We call on everyone - on the basis of our religion, which is the religion of mutual peace, security and security - to strive hard to achieve a just peace, to provide security and safety for all instead of war and provoking conflicts and racist tendencies, which are the fuel for the fires of sedition, problems and disasters.

We reiterate that Islam has called humanity to enter into this comprehensive peace, because it is the most beneficial and best for all. Anything else is following the steps of evil and demons. The Almighty said, directing His words to all believers: [Al-Baqarah ,208] "O you who have believed, enter into Islam (submission-peace) completely [and perfectly] and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy."
