The educational system in Mali, which is based on the Arabic language in schools and universities, is experiencing an unprecedented surge in student enrollment, with the number of students approaching one million.
This remarkable trend is particularly evident in major cities like the capital, Bamako, where students and learners are increasingly displaying a strong interest in acquiring proficiency in the Arabic language. Conversely, the demand for learning the French language is declining. This transformative shift is observable across all educational levels throughout the country.
To bolster language acquisition, including Arabic, Malian authorities are actively facilitating and supporting educational institutions in Mali. They aim to strengthen the proficiency of local languages and address the obstacles that graduates from the Arabic education system face when entering the job market.
It is noteworthy that French serves as the official language in Mali, followed by Arabic and local languages. Islam is the predominant religion, embraced by approximately 90 percent of the Malian population.
