London, United Kingdom - In a significant development, a group of major British universities have joined the global student movement supporting Palestine, expressing their solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemning the ongoing hostilities in the Gaza region. Influenced by "Operation Maximum Flood," the movement has seen a significant escalation, with active participation from students at Newcastle, Bristol, Warwick, Leeds, and Sheffield universities.
Students and staff at these universities participated in protest stands and set up tents both inside and around campus areas, demanding an end to cooperation with companies that support Israel with weapons. At Cambridge University, students urged the administration to withdraw investments and sever ties with Israeli institutions.
In London, students and staff at King's College held protest stands, demanding the severance of ties with the Israeli Technion Institute and arms manufacturing companies. They also called for a ceasefire in Gaza and aid for the destroyed healthcare facilities.
The student movement is not limited to the UK but includes the United States and other countries. A recent survey showed a shift in British public opinion towards a broader rejection of the war on Gaza and greater sympathy for Palestinians.
The International Union of Muslim Scholars praised the student movement, expressing full solidarity with the students and calling for such movements worldwide. In its latest statement, the Union strongly condemned the repression faced by students in several countries and emphasized the necessity of stopping the bloody war in Gaza and defending the Palestinian people.
