The International Union of Muslim Scholars extends its deepest condolences to the Turkish people and the entire Islamic Ummah on the passing of Sheikh and preacher Hasan Kulij Effendi, President and Sheikh of the Ismail Aga Naqshbandi Endowment and the successor to the founder, the eminent scholar Mahmoud Effendi, may Allah have mercy on them both.
Early Life and Upbringing
Sheikh Hasan Kulij Effendi was born in 1931 in the Trabzon Province of Turkey, into a family distinguished by knowledge and piety. He began memorizing the Holy Quran at the age of nine and started studying Arabic and Islamic sciences. He met Sheikh Mahmoud Effendi and became his devoted follower, defending his teachings and activities, and participating in pilgrimages to Hajj and Umrah.
Academic Achievements
The deceased, may Allah have mercy on him, completed his Islamic studies and received a license in Islamic sciences from the school of the esteemed Sheikh Hajj Dorson Effendi Jalikli in the town of "Uf" in Trabzon. He then taught the Holy Quran and Tafsir at the "Ismail Aga" school, where he also delivered sermons and speeches. Following the death of Sheikh Mahmoud Effendi, Sheikh Hasan took over the responsibilities of spiritual guidance.
Characteristics
The late Sheikh Hasan Effendi, may Allah have mercy on him, [was described by Sheikh Mahmoud Effendi as a pure and white-scented Sheikh], devoted his life to serving Islam with absolute sincerity and dedication. He was known for his admirable traits; a good reputation, high moral standards, modesty, politeness, humility, dedication to calling towards Allah, and commitment to his calling. He was also keen on spreading knowledge and educating future generations. He was an exemplary role model, solving people’s problems and listening to them, which made him beloved by all.
The Islamic Ummah has lost one of its esteemed scholars. We ask Allah Almighty to forgive him, envelop him in His mercy, pardon him, reward him abundantly, honor his residence, admit him into the gardens of Firdaus, and gather him with the prophets and the truthful, as he is indeed the best of companions. May Allah grant patience and consolation to his family, loved ones, colleagues, and admirers. He is the best of masters and the best responder to prayers.
