Uzbekistan: Professor Ali Qaradaghi Visits Tashkent Islamic Institute and Praises Its Pioneering Role in Graduating Scholars

In a notable official visit, Dr. Ali Qaradaghi, President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, met with officials at the Tashkent Islamic Institute in the Uzbek capital on Friday, October 18, 2024. He was welcomed by Professor Muhammad Alam Muhammad Siddiqov, Deputy Head of the Muslim Administration of Uzbekistan and President of the Institute.

Knowledge as the Path to the Nation's Revival

During the visit, Sheikh Qaradaghi learned about the history of the institute and its educational and missionary activities, praising its pioneering role in graduating scholars and preachers and disseminating the gentle teachings of Islam.

In a scholarly session with professors and postgraduate students, he delivered a valuable lecture titled "The Virtue of Knowledge and the Methodology of Scholars," discussing the importance of knowledge in building societies and uplifting nations, while emphasizing the necessity of adhering to rigorous scientific methodology in the study of Islamic law.

He also addressed several intriguing questions, highlighting the importance of integrating religious knowledge with modern technology to serve the Muslim Ummah.

The Role of Scholars in Promoting Moderation

Sheikh Qaradaghi expressed his happiness with the visit to Uzbekistan, considering it a home to great scholars who have influenced Islamic civilization.

He commended the significant reforms taking place in the fields of education and religion in the country, praying for Allah to bless these efforts and enhance their development for the benefit of Islam and Muslims.

The Sheikh affirmed that the duties of scholars extend beyond teaching to include knowledge, action, and calling to Allah. He referenced verses from the Quran advocating for moderation and the promotion of virtuous morals, emphasizing the importance of the balance in Islamic jurisprudence, which has received significant attention from the Quran and our predecessors. He called for the development of this approach to meet contemporary challenges.

He concluded his lecture by underscoring the necessity of adhering to the Quran as the primary reference, stating: "We believe in the Torah and the Gospel, but acting upon the Quran represents the law of Islam and the methodology of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him."

Participation in International Conferences on Islam and Scientific Heritage

In response to an invitation from the advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sheikh Dr. Ali Mohiuddin Qaradaghi participated in two international conferences from October 15 to 17.

The first conference was titled "Islam: A Religion of Peace and Goodness," while the second addressed "The Status of Imam Al-Tirmidhi's Scientific Heritage in Islamic Civilization."

Sheikh Qaradaghi was accompanied on this visit by his deputies, Sheikh Dr. Issam Al-Bashir and Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Gormaz, along with several heads of Muslim administrations from countries such as Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Russia.

The events also saw participation from representatives of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the United Nations, and various academic and governmental figures from Uzbekistan.
