Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow, India, announced on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the appointment of Professor Muhammad Ammar Abdul Ali Al-Hasani Al-Nadwi as its new Secretary-General, succeeding Professor Jafar Masood Al-Hasani Al-Nadwi, may Allah have mercy on him, who left a remarkable legacy in advancing the institution’s academic and dawah mission.

An Outstanding Scholarly Journey

Born on October 2, 1964, Sheikh Muhammad Ammar Al-Hasani Al-Nadwi was raised in a scholarly environment under the guidance of his grandfather, the renowned scholar Abul Hasan Ali Al-Hasani Al-Nadwi, one of the most influential Islamic thinkers of modern times.

He obtained an advanced degree in Islamic sciences in 1987, specializing in Hadith studies, and later earned a master’s degree in Arabic language and literature.

With over three decades of experience, he has served as a professor of Hadith and Arabic, and directed Mazhar Al-Islam School for 26 years. In 2025, he was elected Secretary-General of Nadwatul Ulama, alongside his contributions in education, dawah, and commerce.

Nadwatul Ulama: Over a Century of Intellectual and Religious Contribution

Established in 1311 AH / 1892 CE, Nadwatul Ulama emerged as a comprehensive intellectual and reformist movement, aiming to harmonize traditional Islamic scholarship with modern sciences, while fostering connections between Islamic scholars and contemporary intellectuals.

In 1315 AH / 1898 CE, Darul Uloom Lucknow was founded to uphold a methodology that preserves religious integrity while embracing scientific advancement, based on a sound understanding of the Quran and Sunnah. The institution promotes integrated knowledge, distinguishing between beneficial and harmful sciences, while advocating wisdom and moderation in dawah.

Thanks to the efforts of Abul Hasan Al-Nadwi and his successors, Nadwatul Ulama has gained international recognition. Today, Sheikh Bilal Abdul Hai Al-Hasani Al-Nadwi continues to lead the institution in its educational and dawah mission.
