Minister Receives Deputy Chairman of the Union to Discuss Crises of the Islamic
World and Mediation Role in Unifying the Muslim Community

In the context of growing
attention to issues facing the Islamic world, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’
Seri Anwar Ibrahim received on Thursday morning, April 23, 2026, at his office
in the capital Kuala Lumpur, His Eminence Sheikh Mohammed Al-Hassan Ould
Al-Dedew, Vice President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and Head
of the Center for Training Scholars in Mauritania, in a meeting marked by
cordiality and shared concern over the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah.
The meeting, which lasted for
nearly one hour, witnessed in-depth discussions on the most prominent crises
confronting the Islamic world, as well as Malaysia’s efforts in supporting
pathways toward solutions and strengthening stability. Kuala Lumpur continues
to consolidate its position as an active actor in promoting dialogue and
rapprochement among the components of the Ummah.
Both sides also addressed
prospects for cooperation between the Malaysian government and the
International Union of Muslim Scholars, with emphasis on supporting the just
causes of the Ummah, strengthening unity, and enhancing coordination between
scholars and decision-makers in addressing current challenges.
During the meeting, Sheikh
Al-Dedew—who chairs the Mediation and Reconciliation Committee within the
Union—reviewed the Union’s experience in the field of mediation, highlighting
its efforts to bridge viewpoints and contain disputes within the Islamic world,
as well as the successes achieved in this regard, reinforcing the role of
institutional work in conflict resolution.
The discussions further explored
ways to develop joint cooperation in service of the Ummah’s causes, in addition
to reviewing regional and international developments, foremost among them the
Palestinian issue. The meeting stressed the importance of coordinated action
between scholars and leaders in supporting the Palestinian people and defending
their legitimate rights.
This meeting reflects a growing
trend toward activating tools of mediation and dialogue, and strengthening
joint Islamic action, in a way that contributes to overcoming crises and
reinforcing unity in the face of escalating challenges.
