Kuala Lumpur:

In the context of growing attention to issues facing the Islamic world, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim received on Thursday morning, April 23, 2026, at his office in the capital Kuala Lumpur, His Eminence Sheikh Mohammed Al-Hassan Ould Al-Dedew, Vice President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars and Head of the Center for Training Scholars in Mauritania, in a meeting marked by cordiality and shared concern over the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah.

The meeting, which lasted for nearly one hour, witnessed in-depth discussions on the most prominent crises confronting the Islamic world, as well as Malaysia’s efforts in supporting pathways toward solutions and strengthening stability. Kuala Lumpur continues to consolidate its position as an active actor in promoting dialogue and rapprochement among the components of the Ummah.

Both sides also addressed prospects for cooperation between the Malaysian government and the International Union of Muslim Scholars, with emphasis on supporting the just causes of the Ummah, strengthening unity, and enhancing coordination between scholars and decision-makers in addressing current challenges.

During the meeting, Sheikh Al-Dedew—who chairs the Mediation and Reconciliation Committee within the Union—reviewed the Union’s experience in the field of mediation, highlighting its efforts to bridge viewpoints and contain disputes within the Islamic world, as well as the successes achieved in this regard, reinforcing the role of institutional work in conflict resolution.

The discussions further explored ways to develop joint cooperation in service of the Ummah’s causes, in addition to reviewing regional and international developments, foremost among them the Palestinian issue. The meeting stressed the importance of coordinated action between scholars and leaders in supporting the Palestinian people and defending their legitimate rights.
