IUMS denounces violence, explosions in Lebanon, calls for uprooting causes, avoiding sectarianism
All praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, His messenger, upon his family, companions and followers;
The International Union of Muslim Scholars followed with extreme concern the incidents in Lebanon which involved violence in the south, on the borders, in Tripoli and other areas within the last few months. These incidents were lately culminated by the explosions of mosques in Tripoli that left innocent people killed or wounded unawares who have done no harm except going out to prayer, or passing by one of the two mosques in a phenomenon that may fearfully lead to subversions that only Allah knows their extent.
In view of this painful situation in Lebanon, the union affirms the following:
1-The union offers dutiful condolences for the deaths, and asks Allah to accept them as martyrs, to heal the wounded, and grant their families patience and solace.
2-The union pleads to all citizens; Muslims and Christians, Sunnis, Shiites and others, to organize themselves and reconcile their differences through dialogue not explosions, to avoid being a tool to carry out plots to undermine the security of Lebanon, its stability, and the inciting of war among its sects which would only serve the Zionist usurping state that lurks in anticipation for the fall of Lebanon, its honorable people, its unity and stability. In addition, the union calls all Lebanese sects to sit to the dialogue table to resolve all conflicts in a manner that achieves the higher interests of the country stemming from their desire to preserve the unity of Lebanon, protect its social fabric, and its political stability.
3-The union asserts that the explosions carried out in Lebanon within the last months is related to the incidents in Syria, as Lebanon could not apply a policy of "remaining aloof” at most levels. Conversely, Hizbullah showed direct intervention in favor of a regime that has been killing its people for more than two years, while others intervened in favor of the other side.
Thus, the union holds the view that the solution is for Lebanon – as a government, people, political parties and sects – to support the achievement of security in Syria, and to contact all sides to reach the best arrangement for the two neighboring countries.
4-The union demands the Lebanese government to intensify efforts to protect the security of the country, its sovereignty, and the security and dignity of Lebanese citizens in addition to reaching a comprehensive agreement over the core Lebanese values.
