IUMS condemns horrible massacres against pro-legitimacy protestors, holds coup leaders responsible

All praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon God’ messenger, upon his family, companions and followers;

The International Union of Muslim Scholars - represented in its presidency, general secretariat, executive office, board of trustees, members, committees, and special unions of scholars and veterans as well as the broad base of scholars everywhere – were shocked by the events in Egypt and the brutal attack on peaceful protestors supporting the return to the legitimate track and the Egyptian people’s right to freedom, the establishment of a democratic regime, and preventing the return of the corrupt regime with its remnants that wreaked havoc in Egypt along decades. These protestors were attacked viciously in the area surrounding Rabea Al-Adaweya, facing the Memorial of Unknown Soldier in Nasr City, and in Al-Qaid Ibrahim Mosque in Alexandria in addition to the earlier massacre committed outside the Republican Guards, in Ramsis Square, and in Mansoura that caused deaths among the Egyptian people, the number of men, women and children martyred on that night alone reaching around 200, the injuries reaching 4500 persons, added to the previous thousands.

In light of this grave situation initiated by those who participated in the coup against the legitimacy and in support of the rights of the great Egyptian people, the IUMS affirms the following:

1- Condemns these horrendous massacres against peaceful protestors defending the legitimacy and holds the leaders of the coup, and those who supported them, responsible for these massacres before God, before history and the coming generations and confirms that this blood will be a curse on those who spilled it and whoever cooperated in this act or caused it. Almighty Allah warns them great torment after citing the story of Cain’s murder of Abel who said {If you should raise your hand against

me to kill me - I shall not raise my hand against you to kill you. Indeed, I fear God, Lord of the worlds.} [Quran 5: 28].

{Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a

soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely} [Quran 5:32]. Allah also said that {But whoever kills a believer intentionally- his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and God has become angry with him and has cursed him and has prepared for him a great punishment.} [Quran 4: 93]. Prophet Muhammad – peace and blessings be upon him – clarified that "A believer is within a space of their religion, unless they spill a sacred blood” [Al-Bukhari].

So what punishment will these oppressive killers find when those unjustly killed appear on Judgment Day before Allah and settle a dispute over their souls and blood!

2- The terrorization of secure citizens and killing them in the manner revealed by free satellite channels, as well as cooperation with the Zionist enemies of the nation is an act of betrayal for all responsibilities entrusted to them and falls within spreading mischief in the earth.

3- Killing an innocent person and taking peaceful lives is not something that anyone can authorize even if by consensus from all people. It is an illegitimate authorization by the law, religion, and established traditions. How can this be the case when the majority of the Egyptian people joined pro-legitimacy demonstrations in Cairo marching most of its public squares, in Alexandria and the rest of Egyptian governorates whereas supporters of General El-Sisi only demonstrated in Tahrir, Etihadiya and a limited number only in two other governorates.

Even if the majority is on Sisi’s side, what should be done with the rest of the Egyptian people? Aren’t they Egyptians? Aren’t they human?!

4- The union demands the leaders of Muslim and Arab countries to shoulder their responsibilities before Allah and before history and generations by intervening to stop these massacres and achieve an honorable, comprehensive reconciliation where no one’s rights are stripped and where the security of Egypt - that implies the security of our Muslim and Arab nation – is preserved.

5- The union calls the leaders of the free world, the peace, freedom and democracy-loving world, human rights organizations, civil society, and all free people in the world to strongly demand the prevention of these massacres, to condemn them, and exert all efforts to restore democracy and rights to their rightful place, and to achieve security and safety for everyone.

6- Preventing peaceful protests that demand legitimate rights, or breaking them up by force is a violation of the Islamic law as well as all international and human rights laws.

They are protesting to express their will, and are not demanding anything that contradicts Shariah or law, but are calling for the return to legitimacy and the Egyptian people’s right to freedom and democracy. So how come it is permissible to assault them, or break up their protests by force or employing thugs to confront them?

7- The false accusations and excess in rivalry seen from some parties and figures is far from the values of humanity and chivalry and has nothing to do with Islam. Personal enmity must disappear when placed beside the higher interests of the nation and the Egyptian people.

8- The union urges all media outlets to adhere to professional ethics, accuracy, avoid spreading lies, avoid withholding the truth, and forging people’s will in a way that causes seditions and blood spill since they will be questionable before God and will be collaborators in all the consequential incidents of spilling blood and stirring seditions whose grave impacts are known only to Allah. So let them be watchful of Allah regarding Egypt and its future.

9- The union calls all protestors and strikers to stand their ground defending the truth as Allah said {O you who believe! Persevere in patience and constancy; vie in such perseverance; remain stationed; and fear Allah, that you may prosper.} [Quran 3: 200]. No matter how long it takes, injustice can never win over justice nor falsehood over the truth, for Allah reminded of examples in the verses {Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ‘Aad? (7) [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, (8) The likes of whom had never been created in the land? (9) And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? (10) And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? (11) [All of] whom oppressed within the Lands (12) And increased therein the corruption. So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. (14) Indeed, your Lord is in observation.} [Quran 89: 6-14].

{And Allah has full power over His affairs but most among mankind know it not}
