IUMS condemns the murder of British soldier in Woolwich, London
The International Union of Muslim Scholars issued a statement condemning the murder of a British soldier in London. The text of the statement goes:
All praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon God’s messenger, his family, companions and those who side with him;
The International Union of Muslim Scholars followed with extreme grief and regret, the news reported by the media concerning the murder of a British soldier at the hands of a Nigerian youth who follows the Islamic religion. The IUMS meanwhile asserts condemning this heinous crime and considers it a breach of covenants that Muslims are obligated to observe among themselves and among others. We also consider it a crime that harms Islam and Muslims since it serves the campaigns launched by enemies of Islam to distort the image of Islam and Muslims and fuels Muslim-hating inclinations in the hearts of the nations they live among and the countries that host them.
We seize the opportunity to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the departed soldier, and emphasize the demands made within the statement of the Muslim Council of Britain to the British government to view this incident as a separate act that does not stand for any Islamic ruling and does not reflect a general stance by Muslims.
On this occasion, we renew the calls made by the IUMS regarding the necessity of joining efforts to lay down the rules of international relations on a basis of humanity and in a way that guarantees rights and freedoms, and decreases the chances of tension and conflict so that humanity in the different regions of the world will live in tranquility and happiness free of oppression or discrimination, which is the kind of world we believe in, work towards, and call all benevolent people in the world to.
