Promoting Constitutional Respect and National Dialogue for Peace and Stability: A Call from the Union to the Senegalese Government and People

The International Union of Muslim Scholars strongly urges the government and our Senegalese brethren to uphold the constitution and laws, emphasizing the vital importance of fostering an inclusive national dialogue and negotiation process. Our collective aim is to achieve internal security, peace, stability, and to eradicate division, which only serves as a source of discord, failure, and suffering for all.

We implore them to direct their efforts towards the advancement of the nation and the promotion of fundamental rights and freedoms.

Statement: The International Union of Muslim Scholars expresses profound concern regarding the ongoing events in Senegal, particularly in several cities, including the capital, Dakar. The recent protests and acts of violence have tragically resulted in the loss of nine lives and extensive damage to both public and private properties.

We call upon the government and our Senegalese brethren to demonstrate utmost respect for the constitution and laws, emphasizing the urgent need for calm and an immediate resolution of existing disputes and ongoing protests. We urge them to prioritize the best interests of their country, preventing the descent into a destructive spiral of discord that fosters division, violence, destruction, and overall instability.

It is imperative to acknowledge that external forces seek to exploit the current situation to sow destructive chaos in pursuit of their dangerous agendas. Thus, safeguarding the unity of the nation becomes a legitimate and pragmatic necessity.

We reiterate the significance of considering the overall welfare of the country and the entire Senegalese population, while disregarding any other considerations. It is crucial to adopt a stance characterized by wisdom, tolerance, and a commitment to reconciliation, understanding, productive dialogue, and fruitful negotiation, all of which are indispensable in resolving conflicts and striving towards sustainable internal stability and peace.

Allah reminds us: "And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus Allah makes clear to you His verses that you may be guided." [Quran 3:103]
