Dr. Ali Al-Sallabi: Appointment of Ahmed Al-Shara’ a Significant Step Towards Rebuilding Syria and Restoring Stability
The Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), Sheikh Dr. Ali Muhammad Al-Sallabi, stated that the Syrian administration’s decision to appoint Ahmed Al-Shara’ as President marks an important step towards a new transitional phase, aligning with the aspirations of the Syrian people for security, stability, and freedom, for which they have paid a heavy price.
Dr. Al-Sallabi congratulated the Syrian people on this new phase, acknowledging their sacrifices and perseverance. He emphasized that after enduring immense hardship in their pursuit of freedom, Syrians deserve to translate their sacrifices into a tangible reality that guarantees their right to a dignified life, self-determination, and the protection of their nation's unity.
He described Al-Shara’s appointment as a crucial step in shaping the transitional period and leading the revolution towards safety, praising the stance of faction leaders who prioritized the interests of the people over personal gains and supported the national project for rebuilding Syria.
Dr. Al-Sallabi further stated:
"Syria must first regain its strength and work towards the return of refugees and national reconciliation. Establishing a civil state with strong institutions is essential. Unifying armed forces and dissolving all military factions are necessary steps to safeguard the unity of Syrians and prevent civil war."
Regarding regional support for Syria, Dr. Al-Sallabi commended the roles of Qatar and Turkey in standing firmly with the rights of Arab nations. He stressed that the Arab world and the international community must support Syrians in building their modern civil state and lifting international sanctions.
He also noted that the current developments in Syria are the result of lengthy dialogues and revolutionary experiences, expressing confidence that the Syrian people can overcome challenges and build a bright future for their country.
Meanwhile, President Ahmed Al-Shara’ announced a roadmap for the next phase, which includes:
- Forming two committees to select a provisional parliament.
- Organizing a national dialogue conference.
He affirmed his commitment to asserting Syria’s sovereignty under a unified authority and establishing strong institutions based on justice and competence. His top priorities include:
- Achieving civil peace and holding perpetrators accountable.
- Restoring Syria’s territorial unity and revitalizing the national economy.
Conclusion:
Syria is undergoing a historic transformation, and hopes are pinned on these decisions as a fresh start towards a better future. However, the greatest challenge remains the preservation of national unity and the achievement of social and economic justice for all citizens.
