Dr. Fazl Murad: "Union of Muslim Scholars" Continues Strategic Plans to Serve the Islamic Ummah

Dr. Fazl Murad, Assistant Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), emphasized the pivotal role of scholars in guiding the Ummah and illuminating the path during times of hardship.

In his statement, Dr. Murad highlighted that scholars are the heirs of the prophets, bearing great responsibility in addressing the challenges facing the Ummah. He cited the Quranic verse:
"Indeed, those who conceal what We sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear for the people in the Scripture—those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse." [Surah Al-Baqarah: 159].

Dr. Murad added that under the leadership of Sheikh Dr. Ali Mohieddin Al-Qaradaghi, the Union is actively implementing its strategic plan to solidify its position as a leading voice in Islamic advocacy worldwide.

Focused Initiatives for the Future

He explained that the Union’s upcoming projects aim to achieve significant scientific and social objectives, especially on issues of paramount importance to the Ummah. Dr. Murad emphasized that the Union is a legacy of Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi (may Allah have mercy on him), whose vision and efforts established this institution as a beacon of knowledge and Islamic advocacy.

Doha Hosts Board of Trustees Meetings

The International Union of Muslim Scholars convened its leadership meetings—including the presidency, general secretariat, committee heads, and branch directors—at its new headquarters in Doha from November 28 to December 1, 2024. The meetings witnessed the participation of 42 members attending in person, while the remaining 10 joined remotely.

Key discussions included addressing major global issues and setting future plans aligned with the Union’s objectives. On November 30 and December 1, the Union held its sixth session of the Board of Trustees, where reports on activities from the presidency and regional branches were reviewed alongside the Union's five-year strategic plan.

A dedicated session was also held to discuss pressing issues of the Ummah, such as the ongoing aggression against Gaza and Palestine, challenges in Lebanon, and the genocide in both regions. Other significant matters, including the situations in Sudan and Iraq, as well as the plight of detained scholars, were also addressed.
