Union President Calls for an End to Aggression on Gaza and Highlights the Need for Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction Efforts
The President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi, expressed his deep sorrow over the ongoing situation in Gaza. He emphasized that the unrelenting aggression, which has continued since October 2023, weighs heavily on his heart and mind, describing it as a "bleeding wound that refuses to heal."
Dr. Al-Qaradaghi called for immediate action to halt the brutal aggression and stressed the importance of preparing for the post-conflict phase. This includes organizing mobile hospitals, ready-to-assemble homes, and sufficient provisions of medicine, treatment, and food to support the recovery of the Palestinian people.
He condemned the Israeli occupation's actions in Gaza as war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide unprecedented in their scale of destruction and cruelty.
Questioning the role of the international community, particularly the United Nations and nations claiming to defend human rights, he asked: "Where are they in the face of what has been happening in Gaza for over 14 months? Where is their moral stance on this aggression that defies all principles of humanity?"
Sheikh Al-Qaradaghi also referred to his prior initiatives supporting Gaza, highlighting nine key proposals launched with his colleagues to aid the besieged population.
One notable effort included coordination for Union members to enter Gaza via the Rafah crossing, which unfortunately did not receive the necessary response.
He also recounted his tour across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Turkey to secure 50 ships loaded with food and medicine. However, the initiative was halted due to concerns among participating nations about potential repercussions from confronting the occupation.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Al-Qaradaghi shared details of his most recent effort: a proposal for an international summit involving 140 nations to end the genocide in Gaza and establish a global humanitarian organization dedicated to defending the oppressed.
Regrettably, he noted that the responses from some Arab and Islamic leaders fell short of expectations, deepening his anguish.
"The world today faces a real test of its commitment to human values," he stated, "and urgent action is needed to rescue Gaza and its people from this tragedy."
