Dr. Kamilia Helmy Highlights the Most Concerning Aspects of the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development"

Dr. Kamilia Helmy, Chair of the Family Committee at the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), presented an in-depth analysis of the most critical aspects of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

During her address at the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Its Impact on the Family" conference, held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the headquarters of the Association of Turkish Scholars (UMAD) in Istanbul, she outlined the agenda’s potential threats to family values and societal structures.

Background of the 2030 Agenda

Dr. Helmy traced the origins of the UN global document, which was launched during the General Assembly meeting in New York in September 2015. The 2030 Agenda was designed as a foundation for governments to shape their policies and development strategies, including national visions for sustainable development.

However, she warned that the agenda seeks to implement radical changes in legislation related to family structures, as well as reforming education curricula and media programs to align with its objectives.

Key Concerns About the 2030 Agenda

Dr. Helmy highlighted several critical issues that pose a threat to family cohesion and identity:

1️⃣ Opposition to Early Lawful Marriage

  • The 2030 Agenda classifies early legal marriage as a "harmful practice" and promotes its eradication.

2️⃣ Promotion of Illicit Relationships

  • The agenda advocates for "universal access to sexual and reproductive health services", including family planning services and awareness programs.
  • These programs target all individuals, including adolescents and unmarried youth, effectively encouraging non-marital relationships.

3️⃣ Legalization of Homosexuality and Gender Ideology

  • The integration of "gender" concepts into national policies challenges fixed biological and social roles.
  • This fluid approach allows individuals to freely choose their gender identity and relationships, contradicting natural human disposition and religious values.

4️⃣ Elimination of Gender Roles

  • The agenda insists on eradicating differences between men and women, considering them a form of "discrimination against women."
  • This requires legislative changes to enforce absolute gender equality, which could undermine the complementary nature of family roles, leading to family disintegration.

Call for Awareness and Action

Dr. Helmy’s speech was a warning against the potential dangers of the 2030 Agenda’s influence on family laws and social structures. She called for raising awareness and actively engaging in efforts to protect family values and preserve societal harmony.

Conference and Organizers

The event was organized by the Family Committee at the International Union of Muslim Scholars, in collaboration with the Association of Turkish Scholars (UMAD). It gathered scholars, intellectuals, and policymakers to discuss the implications of global development policies on traditional family systems.
