IUMS mourns Nelson Mandela, sends condolences to South Africa, and freedom defenders
The International Union of Muslim Scholars, represented in its President, Secretary General, and members; offers its most sincere condolences and consolation to the people and government of South Africa at the departure of Nelson Mandela, a leader who remains a symbol of struggle for freedom, justice, and human dignity.
The union sends equivalent condolences to all the defenders of freedom, and strugglers against injustice and discrimination in all their forms in Africa and the world.
The union seizes the opportunity of this occasion to call the people of the world and freedom and rights fighters to stand by just Islamic and human causes, on top of which is the Palestinian issue and issues related to the current Arab revolutions, as well as all human causes, and to exert heightened efforts to release prisoners unjustly held and defend the gains earned by the people and defend their free choices.
