The International Union of Muslim Scholars Offers Condolences on the Passing of Professor Ja'far Masoud Al-Hasani Al-Nadwi, Secretary General of Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Allah Almighty says:
"O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], and enter among My [righteous] servants and enter My Paradise."
[Surah Al-Fajr: 27-30].

With hearts filled with faith in Allah's decree, the International Union of Muslim Scholars mourns the passing of Professor Ja'far Masoud Al-Hasani Al-Nadwi, Secretary General of Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow (India), may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away on January 15, 2025.


Birth and Upbringing

Professor Ja'far Masoud Al-Nadwi was born on September 13, 1960 and was raised in a scholarly and Islamic environment that shaped his intellectual and spiritual personality.


Education

He began learning the basics of reading, writing, and memorizing the Qur’an at an early age. He completed his secondary education and then joined Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, where he delved into Arabic language and Islamic studies.

He earned the Shahadatul Alamiya (equivalent to a Master’s degree in Islamic studies) and later a specialization in Islamic sciences. He completed his Master’s degree in Arabic language at the University of Lucknow and participated in a teacher training course at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.


Professional Journey and Responsibilities

His career began with teaching Hadith and Arabic literature at the High Arfaniyah School affiliated with Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow.

  • 2013: Appointed Managing Editor of the newspaper "Al-Ra’id."
  • 2019: Became Editor-in-Chief of "Al-Ra’id."
  • 2021: Appointed Secretary General of the Islamic Scientific Academy at Nadwatul Ulama.
  • 2022: Appointed Secretary General of the Islamic Literary Association for the Indian Subcontinent.
  • 2023: Assumed the position of Secretary General of Nadwatul Ulama in April and became First Vice President of the Islamic Literary Association and Head of its office in the Indian subcontinent in June.

Translations of Works from Urdu to Arabic

He translated several important works, including:

  • "Fi Masirat Al-Hayat" (Volume 3) by Sheikh Abu Al-Hasan Ali Al-Nadwi.
  • "Sheikh Muhammad Yusuf Kandhlawi: His Life and Method in Da’wah" by Sheikh Muhammad Al-Thani Al-Nadwi.
  • "The Hadith Scholar Muhammad Zakariya Kandhlawi and His Scientific Contributions" by Sheikh Abu Al-Hasan Ali Al-Nadwi.

Authorship

He authored and translated books in Arabic and Urdu, including:

  • "My Dear Brother" (in Arabic).
  • "Thoughts" (in Arabic).
  • "Dawat Fikr wa Nazar" ("A Call to Contemplation and Thought").
  • "Basair" by Sheikh Abu Al-Hasan Ali Al-Nadwi (translated from Arabic to Urdu).

He also wrote numerous academic and intellectual articles in Arabic and Urdu, which were published in "Al-Ra’id" and other publications like "Tameer-e-Hayat."


A Beacon of Knowledge and Thought

The late Professor Ja'far Masoud Al-Nadwi - may Allah have mercy on him - was a towering figure of scholarship and thought. He left an indelible mark in the fields of knowledge and literature, combining profound understanding with eloquence and clarity.

A scholar, an inspiring writer, and a skilled lecturer, he dedicated his life to disseminating knowledge and serving the Ummah. Through his rich writings, purposeful articles, and enlightening lectures, he awakened awareness and contributed to the intellectual growth of generations.


Prayer and Condolences

We ask Allah, the Most High, to forgive him and grant him vast mercy, admit him into the highest levels of Paradise, and join him with the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous – and what excellent companions they are.

We also pray for patience and solace for his family, loved ones, and all those who were touched by his work and dedication.

“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him, we will return.”
