Obituary for my sister Adla bint Al-Sheikh Mohyi Al-Deen Al-Qaradaghi, May Allah bless her soul!
With a believing, accepting heart I seek God’s reward for patience over the departure of my older – and may Allah will it, the forgiven – sister Adla who died at around 80 years of age after a life that I count as spent in benevolence, piety, fast, voluntary night prayers, remembrance of Allah and similar acts of obedience. She has lived as a model for us – after my mother, may she rest in peace – and I have seen no one in our family who paralleled her constancy of dhikr, night prayer and fast. Never did she allow backbiting or gossip in her presence, and more than once she would interrupt whoever wanted to say ill words in a gathering telling them to "be mindful of God, and busy yourself with remembrance of Allah.
Don’t you know that everything about you is recorded {He [i.e., man] does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record].} [Quran 50:18]. Thus she had a pure heart, and a continent tongue preoccupied with continually mentioning Allah.
To this I bear witness, and Allah suffices her and I ask Him to accept my witness for her, as well as that of all those who knew her.
May Allah shower her with His vast mercy, grant her the most spacious dwelling in paradise, and resurrect her with prophets, truthful believers, good men and women, and what a blessed company they are! May she be in their company, Amen!
To Allah we belong and to Him is our return.
Ali Mohyi Al-Deen Al-Qaradaghi
