During an interview with Al-Jazeera's program "Days of God" about the fear of some people for the future and their fear of poverty, especially with the rising inflation rates and prices, which leads them to be frugal in spending, Al-Qurra Daghi said, "The fear of poverty is not permissible by Sharia law, especially if it reaches the doctrinal aspect, because the Muslim person must believe in two things: the first is that sustenance is in the hands of God, and the second is that he must know with certainty that he must take all necessary measures."
He continued, "God Almighty says in Surah Adh-Dhariyat (And in the sky is your provision, and that which you are promised. Then by the Lord of the sky and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.), and in these two verses, there are 8 guarantees from God for the person who follows God's laws. He has commanded you to work, move, and take measures, and this is by the command of God, and sustenance will come to you as ordained by God."
The 8 guarantees are as follows:
- Your sustenance is not on earth, but in heaven.
- "Your" is a definite pronoun indicating your known and defined sustenance.
- God promised, and God does not break His promise.
- By the Lord of the sky, meaning that God, as the Rabb (Lord), nurtures and provides from infancy to adulthood, and as the Creator, He cannot leave a person without sustenance.
- If sustenance is in heaven, who will bring it down? It is God, the Lord of the sky, who sends it down.
- Sustenance comes down to earth.
- "Indeed, it is truth" is for emphasis and affirmation.
- God likened sustenance to speech, and just as there is no sound that resembles another sound, each person has a specific sustenance.
Al-Qurra Daghi concluded that "all of this is to confirm reassurance, for we Muslims do not fear death or sustenance, as all is ordained by God."
