The Union Offers Condolences on the Passing of Egyptian Islamic Thinker and Al-Azhar Scholar Ibrahim Al-Khouli at the Age of 93

"O soul that is at rest, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], and enter among My [righteous] servants and enter My Paradise."

The Union expresses condolences on the passing of the Egyptian Islamic thinker and Al-Azhar scholar Ibrahim Al-Khouli at the age of 93. May Allah have mercy on him.

With hearts full of acceptance of the decree of Allah, we have received the news of the passing of the Egyptian Islamic thinker and Al-Azhar scholar, Ibrahim Al-Khouli, at the age of 93. May Allah have mercy on him.

Birth and upbringing:

The late Al-Azhar scholar, Ibrahim Mohamed Abdullah Al-Khouli, was born on May 14, 1929, in the village of Al-Qurashiya in the center of Al-Santa district, affiliated to Al-Gharbia Governorate. He memorized the Holy Quran at an early age and joined Dusuk Elementary Institute in 1943, then joined Tanta religious institute and studied there for 5 years and was ranked first among the students.

The late scholar graduated from the Faculty of Arabic Language at Al-Azhar University in Cairo in 1956 and obtained a general diploma in education and psychology in 1957. A few years later, he obtained a special diploma in education.

His academic and professional career:

The late scholar, may Allah have mercy on him, worked in the Egyptian Ministry of Education since 1956 until 1968. After that, he was appointed as a teaching assistant in the Faculty of Arabic Language at Al-Azhar University in 1968. He progressed in the teaching positions at the faculty, where he worked as a teaching assistant, then assistant lecturer, then lecturer, and finally professor.

Before his passing, he worked as a professor of criticism and rhetoric, a branch of the Faculty of Arabic Language at Al-Azhar University. He was also one of the scholars of Al-Azhar and a professor of rhetoric and criticism at the Faculty of Arabic Language at Al-Azhar University, and was also a member of the Scholars of Al-Azhar Front.

He also worked, may Allah have mercy on him, as a visiting professor at the College of Education at King Abdulaziz University in Medina in 1980, then was dispatched to the Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan, from 1986 to 1988.

His participation and achievements:

The late scholar, may Allah have mercy on him, was known for his strong debates and effective responses to secularists and those who opposed Islamic law. He was one of the professors of Arabic language and had a persuasive argument. He left a rich legacy of works in Islamic studies.

He represented Egypt and Al-Azhar in many international conferences and events, where he was an active participant in presenting a civilizational and human image of Islam.

He also participated in many Islamic conferences in Egypt, Arab and Islamic countries, and had many Islamic works and publications that he accomplished locally and internationally.

He has many works in the field of Islamic studies of rhetoric and criticism, among the most important of which are: "The Sunnah as an Explanation of the Quran," "Exposition in the Noble Quran," "Repetition in Rhetoric," "The Necessities of Abu Al-Ala (A Critical Rhetorical Perspective)," "The Islamic Methodology of Life from the Quran and Sunnah," "The Psychological Aspect of Rhetorical Interpretation in the Works of Abdul Qahir Al-Jurjani," "The Place of Grammar in the Theory of Systems according to Abdul Qahir Al-Jurjani," and "The Requirement of Context Between Ancient Rhetoric and Modern Criticism."

The Islamic nation has lost a sincere scholar. We ask Allah the Almighty to forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him the best reward, honor his abode, enter him into the highest paradise, and gather him with the prophets and the righteous as good companions. We also ask Allah to inspire his family and loved ones with patience and solace. Verily, Allah is the Bestower of blessings and answers to prayers.

"To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return."

This is a date and names of two individuals. The first line reads "Sunday: 19 Ramadan 1444 AH" which corresponds to April 10, 2023 in the Gregorian calendar.
