The Kurdistan Branch of the International Union of Muslim Scholars Honors 23 Students with Islamic Jurisprudence Certification
On Saturday, November 23, 2024, a delegation from the Kurdistan branch of the International Union of Muslim Scholars participated in a prestigious ceremony honoring 23 students of Islamic jurisprudence in the Kurdistan Region. The students were awarded their formal certifications in Islamic sciences during the event.
The delegation was led by Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Banjweni, the branch head, alongside prominent members and administrative officials of the Kurdistan branch.
Organized by the Office of Preachers and Scholars affiliated with the Kurdistan Islamic Union, the event commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur'an.
Sheikh Jaafar Al-Mas, a union member and head of the organizing office, delivered a welcoming address, expressing pride in this scholarly achievement.
In his keynote speech, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Banjweni emphasized the esteemed position of knowledge and scholars in Islam, referring to them as the "heirs of the prophets." He highlighted the critical role of certification in preserving and advancing Islamic jurisprudence.
He stated:
"The noblest pursuit in which lifetimes are spent, wealth is invested, and efforts are exerted is the quest for knowledge."
He also quoted:
"The ink of scholars has been weighed against the blood of martyrs, and the ink of scholars outweighed the blood of martyrs."
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of certifications to the 23 students by distinguished scholars of the union, including Sheikh Ahmed Al-Shafi'i, Sheikh Abdul Sattar Al-Qaradaghi, and Sheikh Zana Nouri.
Held under the theme "Scholars: Symbols of Prosperity and Social Harmony," the event lasted three hours and saw a broad turnout of scholars and preachers from the provinces of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Kirkuk.
The Kurdistan branch is one of several international branches of the union, including those in Palestine, Yemen, Malaysia, Tunisia, Senegal, Qatar, Turkey, Algeria, and Indonesia.
